February 22, 2009 Dolores Hidalgo
We woke up this morning feeling pretty rough after a tough night with a 3 year old (need I say more?) We hit our favourite breakfast place again and then climbed up to the Monumento al Pipila which provides a breath taking view of the city below. The wind was blowing hard up there and I instantly regretted my unwise wardrobe choice (a skirt). While I spent most of my time wrestling to keep from flashing the locals, Dave and Sienna climbed around the monument on the extensive staircases and enjoyed the scenery below.
We took the bus to Dolores Hidalgo that morning and arrived in time for lunch. We found a beautiful hotel (Posada Cocomacan) for a very reasonable price and headed out to tour Father Hidalgo’s home, which has been converted into a museum. It was interesting to see his bedroom kept intact over the years and the various furnishings from his home, but the written artefacts were of little interest, since we could understand very little of the Spanish. After visiting the zocalo (town square) and its lovely church (or castle, as Sienna likes to refer to them), we had pretty much completed the sightseeing tour. Sienna made new friends in the zocalo, where families had gathered to enjoy their Sunday afternoon. It was cute to see the little boys helping her climb over obstacles and letting her in on their game of tag.
